Volunteer and Donation Opportunity: Foster Family Adventure Day Needs – We need help obtaining the following supplies and volunteer opportunities!

The event will be held at Acadiana Nature Station located at Acadiana Park. It will be November 19th from 10am – 2pm

We will need:
– 3 volunteers for the entry table and sign ups. They would need to arrive at 9am to help with table set up and to get briefed.
– 3 volunteers for the craft table, 915am arrival. Helping families construct, and set up/take down of the craft table. Based on current sign ups we are planning for 45 kids. From ages 3-11.
Supplies needed:
9 Tables, 9 table cloths, 45 chairs (these tables and chairs will also be used for lunch and the terrarium class.)
Table 1: 50 tree color sheet printouts, 50 handfuls of yard leaves – dry so that they will crumble, crayons, glue sticks to accommodate 15 kids at a time.

Table 2: Pet rock craft – 50 painting rocks, glue on eyes, glue, paint and paintbrushes to accommodate 15 kids at a time.

Table 3: Mason jar bird feeders – mason jars, yarn, plastic sandwich bags, paint and paintbrushes to accommodate 15 kids at a time, bird feed

– Lunch – 3-4 volunteers 11am arrival – Preparing and serving. We are currently planning for 75 people. The plan is red beans and rice with sausage. 
Supplies needed:
  • 10 lbs. Red Kidney Beans
  • 6 lbs. Andouille sausage, sliced into 1-inch discs
  • 8 yellow onions, diced
  • 6 green bell peppers, diced
  • 6 stalks of celery, diced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 6 bay leaves
  • 1 (1-ounce) container white pepper
  • 1 (0.7-ounce) container dried thyme
  • 3 bunches green onions, chopped
  • 2 cup fresh parsley
  • 10 lbs of white rice
– 4 Helpers for the Terrarium class led by Hunter
Supplies needed:
Terrarium soil, terrarium rocks (small), terrarium moss plants (small ferns, air plants, succulents, etc), spray bottles (about 3), glass or plastic containers (mason jars or similar), plastic spoons, and sand or activated charcoal
– 1 Helper to aid Hunter with Scavenger Hunts
– 2 Helpers to aid Amy with Guided Hikes
Itinerary:
10am – Entry table and sign ups
10am – Noon – Craft Tables Open
10:30 am – 11:15am  First Guided Hike Opportunity
1030 am – 12:30 pm – Scavenger Hunts by sign up time
11:30 am – 12:15 Second Guided Hike 
12:15pm – 1pm Lunch provided and announcements
1pm – 2pm Terrarium Class
1pm – 2pm Great Places to hike in Louisiana, what to bring, and tips for bringing kids!
